Killing The Kids Of Video Games
After the emotional trailer to the upcoming Dead Island game was shown, A storm of controvosy was triggered in the media last month about the youngt girl who not only dies and once but dies as a zombie….well zombies dont die,but, you get what i mean.(Trailer At The Bottom Of Page) now the devolopers have stated there will be no zombie children in the game yet this has still sparked up old ideas and thoughts on children being harmed in video games zombies or not. So i sat here at my recently ressurected computer and thought about all of the zombie games with children in them….and came to the conclusion that there arnt many! Alough in other media especially movies, there are numeras films involving the slaughter of what we all fear more than adult zombies. So i made a top 5 list but included zombie like/ demon children.
- 5 - Silent Hill 4: The Twin Victims (7&8)
Walter Sullivan’s seventh and eight victims were twins Billy and Miriam Locane. These Were personally the scariest encounters in the whole series, i remember being surround by them in the water tower stage and it drove me to the point of pausing the game and taking a break from the intense horror of not being able to survive.
- 4 - Dead Space 2: Crawlers
This is the introduction scene to the Crawlers, well just watch and im sure you willl agree with me that this is probably the goriest meeting of any enemy in video game history, not to mention its really fucked up!
- 3 - Silent Hill: Ghost Babies (Larval Stalkers)
These strange creatures were found in Midwich High School and he Amusement park, They represent the children that bullied Alessa as a child. They Are completely Harmless But for some reason bumping into these guys in the halls scared me shitless.
- 2 - Splatter House 2: Fetuse Baby Boss
Ok, so im not sure how this got past the censorship back in the day but its a ballsy move by Namco. You have to cut up these hanging abominations with the near by chainsaw, If any has played a splatter-house game then they will definitely remember this scene above all the others!
- 1 -Dead Space: The Pack
Again A new edition to dead space, these foul childlike monsters are easy to handle on their own but as the name suggest they are worth being called ‘The Pack’ as this is when the games mechanic of tactical crowd control comes into play. Watch the video below for one of the many death scenes.
Honourable mentions
this is a section devoted to some of the other creatures i couldnt decide where to place or not really belonging to the list but deserved a mention as they are equally gore’iffic!
- Dead Space: Lurkers
The lurkers are in both dead space games but don’t really become that much of a scare or challenge, they are more of an annoyance than a encounter. But I gota hand it to the Animators for the counter kill on these bad guys, Isaac’s boot to the face is very satisfying end to these mutated infants!
- Condemded 2: Dolls
I hated this part of condemned, it scared the living shite out of me. It was one of them moments where you knew what was in the next room but didn’t want t go in there. Again this is what EA redwood achieved so well in the dead space games although it was way to intense sometimes.
- Dante’s Inferno’s: The Unbaptized Babies
These are babies who died before they could be baptised and were immediately condemned to Limbo. With Razor blades for arms these guys are a bloody pain to fight, like the pack they get dangerous in groups.
- Dead Island: Zombie Girl
Well here is the trailer that spawned this whole article, The developers have said that none of these characters will be featured in the finished game and it is purely promotional material. The Trailers evokes real strong emotions that not many game trailers can do, I will go and say that this is probably the most epic piece of game cinematography I have seen this generation. Do Enjoy.
