AtAtReedy’s GOTY 2010, Part 1
For me there were only a few gaming highlights of 2010, it was an average year for a casual gamer. I’ve decided to narrow it down to one game on each platform I own and pick from there-
Modern Warfare 2, XBox 360 - yes i know it came out late 2009, but i didn’t get to play it until 2010.
Having not played any ‘call of duty’ games before I threw myself in at the deep end on this one! It took me a while to work out exactly what was happening on the screen in front of me, there is so much chaos and dramatic set pieces in the first two or three levels that you feel like your ‘viewing’ more than ‘playing’. But you soon get used to it, the story is typical Tom Clancy stuff about terrorists and double crossing. The graphics are astounding and were probably the reason why i picked this game above others on the platform, the smoke and water effects are so realistic!
Wii Party, Wii
Having got hold of a Japanese version of this earlier in the year i had high hopes for the UK release at Christmas, but it seemed to be a bit of slow burner, even with all the celebrity endorsements on TV, unfortunately Just Pants Dance 2 beat it to the Christmas #1 spot on Wii, shame on you all!
What Nintendo have done here is hit back at all the lazy/rubbish mini game compilation shovel-ware that seem to be clogging up the Wii shelves at game shops, they’ve proved that if a little time and effort is put into this sort of game it CAN be fun to play. Playing as your Mii you have an abundance of options in front of you depending on how you want to play - quick 5 minute solo games to hour long 4 player marathons are all catered for, and if your not sure what to play the game will even suggest for you based on time + # of players!
The mini-games themselves are all great, not a single weak one, with challenges based on skill,luck,timing everyone can play!
After you read this, please, please go out and get it so Nintendo can make a follow up!
